Categories are important and useful for organizing pages.

All pages that have the Category: namespace, are categories.

Using Categories

  • To add a page to a category, write the link to the category: [[Category:WikiHelp]]
  • To create a normal link to a category without adding the page to said category, you need to write it like this: [[:Category:WikiHelp]]

Notes

  • The Categories will always appear at the bottom of the page if done correctly, no matter where you put the Category tag when editing.
  • This is why it is best to add categories in the first line, so they are easily found when editing.

What can be Categorized?

Everything can be put into a category, such as

  • Pages
  • Categories (for further sorting)
  • Media Files (they have File: as namespace)

Templates with Categories

Some templates have been made so it will add the page using it into the same category.

  • There will be a note on the template page itself, telling you what the template is made to do, such as if it will add the page to a category.
  • An example can be made of this help page, by using the {{WikiHelp}} template, the page has been organized into the WikiHelp Category.
